Ms. Slajer leads the team of professionals at the North Star Group, an advocacy, research and community engagement firm she founded in 2002. Originally from Ketchikan, currently residing in Europe while maintaining homes in Anchorage and Washington, D.C., Ms. Slajer is a trained communities and social performance professional with more than 30 years of experience in economic development, community engagement, stakeholder relations, and matters affecting rural communities and Indigenous peoples. Ms. Slajer holds a Masters of Rural Development degree with a concentration on community engagement in the mining and extractive industries. She served on the U.S. Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (USEITI), a federal advisory committee shaping a global standard to improve accountability for oil, gas, and mining revenues. She is a founder of the Alaska Native Arts Foundation.
