Modernizing and improving the Endangered Species Act (ESA) was the subject of a hearing in the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee on Feb. 15. The hearing focused mostly on streamlining the act and removing inefficiencies in the act with the listing and de-listing process.

The House Natural Resources Committee heard testimony on the Federal Lands Freedom Act which would make it much easier for federally held lands to be transferred to state control and would remove much of the regulations placed on land management.

The House subcommittees for Coast Guard & Marine Transportation and Water Resources & Environment held a joint hearing on Sept. 7 to discuss the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, and U.S. Coast Guard maritime navigation programs and initiatives.
The hearing focused on charting, accurate navigational aids, and the potential rise of “e-navigation.” New electronic navigation technologies could change maritime transportation functions dramatically, and also pose new risks to the system.
