Regional Workshop to Facilitate the Description of Ecologically or Biologically Significant Marine Areas in the North-East Atlantic Ocean and Training Session on EBSAs

The Secretariat will convene the CBD Regional Workshopto Facilitate the Description of Ecologically or Biologically Significant Marine Areas (EBSAs) in theNorth-East Atlantic Ocean, from 23 to 27 September 2019, preceded by a training session on EBSAs on22 September, in Stockholm, Sweden. The workshop will be hosted by the Government of Sweden andorganized in collaboration with the OSPAR Commission and the North-East Atlantic FisheriesCommission (NEAFC), with financial support from the Governments of Sweden, Germany, France andDenmark.This workshop is being convened pursuant to decision X/29, in which the Conference of theParties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity requested the Executive Secretary to organize aseries of regional workshops with a primary objective to facilitate the description of EBSAs throughapplication of the scientific criteria in annex I of decision IX/20, and decision 14/9, in which the COPinvited Parties to submit descriptions of areas that meet the criteria for EBSAs in the North-East Atlantic.Governments in the region, as well as relevant global and regional organizations/initiatives, aretherefore invited to nominate experts who can participate in this workshop and provide scientificinformation in support of the workshop’s objectives, both prior to and during the workshop.
